A second event for NOHEIC
The national observatory on health and environmental impacts of contaminant (NOHEIC) held a second public event in Rouyn-Noranda featuring Cynthia Morinville, professor in the dpartment of environmental sciences at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR).
An engaging scientific conference
On Thursday March 6, the campus of the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue (UQAT) in Rouyn-Noranda hosted a conference on the international trade in electronic waste and the role of the city of Rouyn-Noranda in a global economy. The presentation was also streamed online to allow a larger audience to attend the event. It helped to clarify the types of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) that exist and the paths they follow at end-of-life, with a particular focus on the ethnography of the work of waste pickers, especially in India and Ghana, who recover primary resources for international markets with limited means.
A science café for all
On Friday March 7, a science café was held at the Bar-Librairie Livresse with the aim of opening a dialogue with the entire Rouyn-Noranda community. The presentation, titled Rouyn-Noranda and electronic waste: A journey into the heart of a globalized economy, enabled enriching exchanges with about twenty participants of all ages.
Strong interest in NOHEIC activities
This second event organized by NOHEIC was remarkably successful, just like the first one held last January. The high level of participation in the activities of the National observatory on health and environmental impacts of contaminants encourages the team to continue planning future events. The conferences thus organized align with NOHEIC’s mission to disseminate scientific knowledge on issues related to contaminants and environmental health.
NOHEIC extends its thanks to Cynthia Morinville for her presence in Rouyn-Noranda and to all those who participated in these two activities.
