Who is Sébastien Rivest, research agent at NOHEIC?

The National observatory on health and environmental impacts of contaminants (NOHEIC) is pleased to include Mr. Sébastien Rivest, research agent in data science, among its staff. His expertise in ecology and data analysis strengthens NOHEIC’s capacity in managing, visualizing, and interpreting environmental information.
Academic and professional background
Mr. Rivest is originally from the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region. He holds a doctorate in biology from the University of Ottawa, where his research focused primarily on the role of toxic compounds in pollen on plant-pollinator interactions. Previously, he completed a master's degree at the Université de Sherbrooke on the effects of altitude on ecological interactions and the flowering of understory plants, as well as a bachelor's degree in biology at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi. He has also coauthored scientific publications on bee ecology and plant population dynamics.
Role and responsibilities at NOHEIC
In his role, Mr. Rivest is responsible for:
- database management: organizing and structuring data obtained by NOHEIC to ensure its accessibility and integrity;
- data analysis and interpretation: applying advanced statistical methods to interpret data on contaminants and their impacts on health and the environment;
- research project support: collaborating with researchers to provide relevant data analyses and visualizations;
- development of dissemination tools: contributing to the creation of interactive platforms to share results with the public and stakeholders.
