Update to the NOHEIC Data Repository

Several datasets have been added to the NOHEIC data repository, covering a wide range of contaminants and environmental media, and originating from various data collection initiatives. These include:

  • Sampling data on various metals collected from snow, soil, lakes, and peatlands near the Horne smelter, gathered by the Geological Survey of Canada. These data, collected between 1997 and the early 2000s, document how contaminants from the Horne smelter accumulate in various environments;
  • Data on asbestos concentrations in asbestos-bearing regions, which provide a better understanding of the risks associated with this contaminant;
  • Measurements of metals and other contaminants in surface water and groundwater, which provide essential reference points for assessing water quality.

These datasets are organized to facilitate exploration, analysis, and interoperability across different databases. They also allow for better comparison of contamination levels across the environments studied and support the interpretation of results within a broader environmental context.
