Have you heard of the Aquahacking Québec Challenge?

On Friday, June 13, 2025, Rouyn-Noranda will host the grand final of the AquaHacking Québec Challenge 2025, a flagship event for environmental innovation in Quebec. Organized by AquaAction in collaboration with several regional partners, this competition highlights innovative technological solutions aimed at restoring and protecting aquatic ecosystems affected by mining and industrial activities.
Ten finalist teams, made up of young professionals, students and researchers, will present their projects to a panel of expert judges. The proposed solutions address issues such as sediment decontamination, aquatic invasive species management, urban runoff treatment and citizen mobilization for water quality monitoring.
This initiative is part of a broader approach to raising awareness and taking action to preserve water resources, particularly in regions like Abitibi-Témiscamingue, where aquatic ecosystems face major environmental challenges.
Prizes awarded at this year's finals included a $20,000 bursary for first place, $10,000 for second place, $5,000 for third place, and a $1,000 People's Choice Award. Each finalist team also received financial support and personalized coaching to develop their project.
The event starts at 1:30 p.m. at the Petit Théâtre du Vieux Noranda, 112, 7e Rue, Rouyn-Noranda. Interested citizens can register free of charge to attend the final in person.
