PRÉCISE - $3.2 million in funding awarded to 5 projects

A total of $3.2 million in funding has been awarded to five research projects examining the impact of exposure to contaminants on health

FRQ Press Release, May 26, 2026 - The Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ), in partnership with the Ministry of Economy, Innovation, and Energy (MEIE) and in collaboration with the national observatory on health and environmental impacts of contaminants (NOHEIC), is pleased to announce the results of the first call for proposals for PRÉCISE — a research program focused on the assessment of contaminants and their impacts on health and the environment (PRÉCISE – Programme de recherche sur l’évaluation des contaminants et des incidences sur la santé et sur l’environnement).

Five teams will receive funding over the next three years for a total of $3,175,000, including indirect research costs. Funding for these research projects was made possible through the financial contribution of the Government of Quebec as part of the Government Action Plan to Support Rouyn-Noranda.

It should be noted that the PRÉCISE program, launched on July 3, 2025, focused on cross-sectoral collaboration to advance knowledge of the impacts of metal contaminant emissions—such as those emitted by the Horne Smelter—on the health of communities and individuals, with a view toward sustainable development and health.
