Environmental and health inequalities

« Environmental inequalities, or how the environment generates health inequalities »

Summary

Environmental health studies the links between the environment and health, because the environment influences health, whether positively or negatively. The environment and its components are determinants of health, in the same way as social or economic determinants. This presentation will look at health vulnerabilities conditioned by the environment, and how these are closely linked to social inequalities in health. Environmental inequalities often translate into accumulated risks to the detriment of the most disadvantaged populations. The principles of “environmental justice” constitute a current of thought and action aimed at reducing these environmental inequalities.
